Job Description

The Health Services Specialist is responsible for the planning, development, oversight and monitoring of the health content areas within the child development program. The Health Services Specialist is responsible for ensuring implementation of the Health and Oral Health services, through planning, development, and monitoring of operations; tracking data on children; creating and maintaining community linkages; and supporting the SNHS Holistic Health & Resilience program for staff.

RATE: $26.18- $29.35

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrate the highest of standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, honesty, and fortitude in all our Community Action activities in order to inspire confidence and trust in the Community Action movement.
  2. Support the mission and philosophy of the Head Start program.  Work in partnership with families without judgment or bias, recognizing and respecting individual differences and backgrounds.
  3. Provide leadership and direction in planning for the training, development, and mentorship of all staff in order to meet or exceed requirements, and as a means of ensuring quality experiences for infants/toddlers, preschoolers, and their families.
  4. Possess good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as a part of a team, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, receive and provide feedback, and manage dynamic interchanges in meetings.
  5. Establish and implement procedures for the ongoing monitoring of EHS/HS content to ensure effective implementation of federal requirements.
  6. Participate in ongoing strategic planning process incorporating program data (PIR, monitoring results, outcomes, self-assessment, and budget) to assess program goals and objectives, meet program requirements and promote continuous improvement.
  7. Plan and provide opportunities for training and development of all staff to help them acquire or increase the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities and implement HS performance standards.
  8. Responsible for the monitoring and follow-up of the health content through regular site visits to ensure compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards & Childcare Licensing Standards.
  9. Organize Health Services Advisory Committee and facilitate meetings.  Maintain appropriate documentation.
  10. ChildPlus Tracking will be monitored for each site to monitor follow up services; support staff with ChildPlus record keeping system as needed.
  11. Plan, coordinate and participate in conducting health screening.  Work with local health and dental providers to assure availability of professional screenings, health and dental services as required by Performance Standards and NH Child Care Licensing.
  12. Facilitate training for the direct service staff in regards to health and safety.
  13. Promote and support family engagement in all aspects of the health program, especially in Health Services Advisory Committee.
  14. Coordinate and support the implementation of health education for Head Start parent groups.
  15. Responsible for monitoring the 45/60/90 day deadlines for screenings and help coordinate intervention when appropriate.
  16. Monitor dental contract.  Act as liaison with dental insurance providers.
  17. Inventory first aid kits regularly and replace items, as needed
  18. Coordinate and track staff training in CPR and First Aid.
  19. Support sites with the Emergency Operations Plan, Drills and Updates.
  20. Prepare and process orders and requisitions for health supplies and equipment.  Assure that health equipment is properly maintained.
  21. Responsible for the Hearing & Vision Equipment Scheduling; support centers as needed with completion of required screenings.
  22. Participate in health and nutrition meetings as needed
  23. Responsible for collecting and documenting all Non-Federal Share donations received.
  24. Responsible for the annual review and update of assigned content and presentation to Policy Council.
  25. Support the SNHS Holistic Health & Resilience program.
  26. Relate professionally and tactfully with all families and staff. 
  27. Will maintain professional boundaries with all current, past, and prospective clients, and maintain the confidentiality of clients and staff, in accordance with SNHS policy and procedure.
  28. Abide by all SNHS Safety policies and procedures.
  29. Present professional and positive image as a representative of SNHS.
  30. Responsible for having adequate knowledge of all SNHS programs and will gather sufficient intake information to make referrals to other SNHS programs which are beneficial to the client and his/her family.
  31. Perform other related duties as required

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to be flexible with early or late hours for meetings with families, staff, and other events/activities.  Possible occasional weekend events/activities.
  • Ability to travel throughout Hillsborough and Rockingham Counties, NH.
  • Ability to relate effectively to parents of Head Start children, staff, and the community. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment that supports quality and integrated services.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Baccaluareate degree in the area health or related field;
  • Advanced certification in the health field preferred. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Head Start/Early Head Start experience
