“Clash of the Cupcakes” names Benson’s Bakery of Hudson “Best Cupcake 2015” winner
They came…they clashed…and they were delicious. Benson’s Bakery & Cafe of Hudson was recognized as the “Best Cupcake 2015” at the “Clash of the Cupcakes” held recently at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester.
This is the second year in a row that Benson’s has taken home recognition for the “Best Cupcake.”
The winning entry was a entitled “Bourbon Butterbeer Cupcake” and consisted of a honey bourbon chocolate cake with butterscotch ganache filling and caramel bourbon butter cream.
The fourth annual “Clash of the Cupcakes” served as a fund raising event for Southern New Hampshire Services’ Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
Members of the audience selected the “I Want S’mores Cupcake from Milltown Cakes in Milford as the “People’s Choice” winner. Their entry was a rich chocolate fudge cupcake filled with marshmallow cream and crushed graham cracker filling and topped with a special recipe whipped buttercream frosting, toasted marshmallows and a chocolate square.
Receiving Honorable Mention for their cupcake entries were:

- Cupcakes 101, Beford
- Sophisticakes, Windham
All attendees received samples of the cupcakes and had the opportunity to participate in a special prize raffle.
Emcee for the evening was Charlie Sherman, NH1 News. Judges included Cathy Allen, Executive Pastry Chef at the Copper Door Restaurant; Marga Bissette, WZID 95.FM and Kath Palmer, Encore Editor, The Telegraph.
“This year’s ‘Clash of the Cupcakes’ showcased five new bakers to the competition, hosted more than double the guests from last year and raised a record amount for Southern New Hampshire Services Retired and Senior Volunteer Program,” said Jennifer Sanders, volunteer services director. “We want to thank everyone who showed their support of the important work our volunteers do by being a part of this year’s event.”
Proceeds from the event benefit Southern New Hampshire Services’ Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. The money raised helps RSVP recruit, train and recognize the program’s dedicated seniors who, through their volunteer service, remain active and contributing members of their community.
